New Cell Phone Laws
FYI: A new law was passed in January that restricts cell phone usage in a school zone. We understand this to mean no texting or calling while in a school zone. For the safety of all our students, we ask that you please follow the guidelines set, and not use your cell phones when dropping off or picking up your children. Thank you for helping us keep RES students safe!
Literacy Night
Three classes held a Literacy Night on February 25th. Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Martel, and Mrs. Renshaw all invited families to share in literacy centers and activities. Mrs. Renshaw's kindergarten class did a special program to kick off the evening, sharing many of the songs and group activities they do daily that center around literacy. In first grade, students and families were greeted at the door and given a clipboard with a list of all the literacy centers set up in the classroom. A great time was had by all!

PTO Bingo Night is a Huge Success
On January 29th PTO held it's annual Bingo Night. We had over 1,000 participants this year! Because of the high interest, we went to 4 sessions this year. Free popcorn, hot dogs, and beverages were served. The raffles were also a huge success, with the procedes going towards the purchase of additional document cameras for the Elementary. A big thanks to Sheril Flynn, Joann Vose and Jill Wollet for planning this huge event. We would also like to thank our many volunteers that helped to make our evening run smoothly, as well as all who made donations for the raffles and prizes.

Out of the Blue Day
Thursday, January 28th marked our monthly "Out of the Blue Day". Out of the Blue is a special day when students are recognized for making good choices throughout the month. Students earn "Rocket Booster Tickets" for green light days. In order to have a green light day, students must remember and follow our 3 MAIN RULES: BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE SAFE.
Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Covi popped into classrooms throughout the day to recognize students who had earned Rocket Booster Tickets. As a bonus, 2 names from each class were drawn to receive a Razzo's Certificate for a free personal pan pizza. THANKS RAZZO'S!!!!
Out of the Blue has become a much anticipated day for the students, and they often ask, "When are we going to have another Out of the Blue Day?"

Real Character Is No Accident
Rochester Elementary participated in a special character building assembly on Thursday, January 14. All students in grades K-3 went to the Middle School for a special presentation by Jerry Jacoby. Jerry's use of comedy, music and audience participation helped promote his message about respect and good character. It was amazing to watch our students actively participate in this assembly. We were especially proud of them when Jerry called his first volunteer out of the audience, and the other students clapped and cheered. Rochester Elementary students truly rock!
